Published: September 2015. ISO 9001:2015 is the current edition.
Structure: Annex SL high level structure. 10 clauses. Clauses 4 to 10 carry the auditable requirements.
Certifiable: Yes. The company is certified. There is no certificate for a product or a person under this standard.
Certificate validity: The assessment body confirms the applicable schedule and continuing requirements for your scope.

What ISO 9001 is

ISO 9001:2015 is the international standard for a quality management system. It asks a company to define what it does, control how the work is carried out, measure the result, and correct what goes wrong.

What the standard requires

Clauses 1 to 3 cover scope, normative references and terms. Clauses 4 to 10 are the requirements an auditor checks.
Clause 4, context. List the parties that matter, state what the quality system covers, and map the processes end to end.
Clause 5, leadership. Management owns the system, signs the quality policy, and assigns responsibility for each process in writing.
Clause 6, planning. Record the risks and opportunities for each process and set quality objectives with numbers and dates.
Clause 7, support. Competence records, training, equipment and calibration, plus control of documents and records.
Clause 8, operation. Review what the customer asked for before accepting the order, control the work, control suppliers, and stop nonconforming output.
Clause 9, performance evaluation. Measure the objectives, run internal audits on a plan, and hold a management review.
Clause 10, improvement. Log every nonconformity and complaint, find the cause, correct it, and show the correction worked.

How long does certification take?

Preparation depends on your scope, existing records and any gaps to address. The assessment body controls its own schedule and decision.

What should we prepare before starting?

Tell us your activities, locations and any buyer requirement. We then identify the existing procedures and records needed for the initial review.

Will this meet our buyer’s requirements?

We review the buyer’s stated requirement against the scope and issuing body before proceeding. Acceptance of your supplier application remains the buyer’s decision.

What happens after certification is granted?

Keep the system and records current, address findings and follow the assessment body’s surveillance and renewal requirements. Any ongoing support is agreed separately.

Do we need ISO 9001 before other management standards?

No. You can prepare compatible management systems together, provided each standard’s requirements are met. The certification body confirms the audit arrangement.

What will ISO 9001 change in our daily work?

It provides a consistent way to control work, keep records, address complaints and correct recurring problems. The system should reflect how your company actually operates.
