ISO CertificationUpdated
Which ISO certificate do buyers in Iraq ask for?
“We need ISO” is not specific enough to define the work. The useful starting point is the buyer’s written requirement: the standard requested, the activities to be covered and any conditions for the issuing body.

Make the customer’s request specific
An equipment company may supply, install and maintain the same product. A request for ISO certification could concern one of those activities or the combined service. Choosing a package before clarifying that point can leave the company investing in work that does not answer the request.
Establish the named standard and the intended coverage. Where the wording is unclear, ask the buyer to clarify it. A certificate held by another supplier does not establish what your company needs.
Describe the work behind the scope
A workshop repair and a service visit to the customer’s premises belong in the same scope discussion when both form part of the offer. The proposed description should make the company’s activities and relevant locations clear.
Existing certification is worth reviewing when the business adds a site or service. The issuing body can clarify the certificate’s coverage; the buyer can clarify what evidence its requirement calls for. These are different responsibilities.
Separate the kinds of evidence
| Term | What to understand |
|---|---|
| Management-system certification | Assessment of the management system within the stated scope. |
| Accreditation | Independent recognition of a certification body’s competence for specified work. |
| Product tests or approvals | Evidence relating to the product and the buyer’s separate requirements. |
If the buyer requires certification within an accredited scope, confirm that the proposed certificate falls within the certification body’s relevant accreditation. Do not rely on the word “accredited” without that connection. ISO explains the distinction between certification and accreditation.
Choose the preparation around the requirement
The standards catalogue helps frame a discussion about quality, safety, environmental or other management needs. It is not a table of universal buyer requirements.
Keybridge reviews the requested scope and what the business already has in place. Where several standards are relevant, shared procedures may help organise the preparation. The certification body determines its assessment arrangements and certification decision.
For example, preparation for an electrical-panel manufacturer may involve how purchasing, assembly and checks are managed. The procedures should describe the work the team actually performs and who is responsible for it.

Questions
- Does every company in one sector need the same certificates?
- No. The activities, intended scope and relevant buyer requirements need to be reviewed for that company.
- Does ISO issue the certificate?
- No. ISO develops the standards. An external certification body assesses the system and makes the certification decision.
- Can a management-system certificate replace product tests?
- It should not be assumed to do so. Confirm the product evidence and management-system evidence the buyer requires separately.
