ISO CertificationUpdated
How long does an ISO certificate last, and what keeps it valid in Iraq?
Management-system certification such as ISO 9001 typically follows a three-year cycle, with surveillance audits between certification and renewal. That does not mean a certificate stays valid without ongoing compliance. Confirm the applicable scheme, dates and current status with the issuing body.

Check the actual certificate
Review the company name, standard, activities, sites and validity shown on the certificate. Ask the issuing body to confirm status where needed. A date alone does not show whether the certificate covers the work a buyer is assessing.
Surveillance and renewal
Surveillance checks continued compliance during the cycle; recertification is the assessment for the next cycle. BSI’s management-systems guide describes two annual surveillance audits followed by recertification within a typical three-year cycle. The issuing body sets the actual schedule for your certification.
Book renewal early enough to complete the required assessment and resolve findings before expiry. Suspension or withdrawal can affect status before the printed expiry date. Ask the issuing body for written confirmation if status is unclear.
Check the certification cycle
European Accreditation distinguishes the three-year management-system certification cycle from annual surveillance or certificate reissue, while recognising scheme-specific exceptions. A commercial support period is not, by itself, proof of a certificate’s validity. Check the expiry or recertification due date on the certification documents.
Laboratory accreditation is different
ISO/IEC 17025 concerns laboratory competence for a defined testing or calibration scope. Laboratory accreditation is distinct from ISO 9001 management-system certification. Check the accreditation body’s current scope and assessment arrangements rather than applying the three-year certification cycle automatically.
Separate certification from vendor registration
A buyer registration can have different update requirements from a certificate. Check both rather than assume one renewal keeps the other current. Our vendor-registration routes help identify the application to review.
Keep the system in use
The company remains responsible for operating its system and maintaining supporting records. Agreed preparation support may help identify gaps and organise the work before assessment. ISO 9001 preparation explains the quality-management service.
Bring the expiry date and the buyer’s deadline together
Tell us the standard, expiry date and any tender or registration deadline. We review the preparation work through the ISO certification service. The issuing body decides certification status, and the buyer decides whether the evidence meets its requirement.

Questions
- How long is our certificate valid?
- For management-system certification such as ISO 9001, a typical cycle is three years with surveillance in between. The applicable scheme, certification documents and current issuing-body status determine your actual validity.
- What happens after the certificate is issued?
- Keep the system in use, maintain records and complete the issuing body’s scheduled surveillance audits. Recertification assesses the system for a further cycle; it is not automatic.
- What if we may miss an audit date?
- Contact the issuing body promptly to confirm the required action and the effect on certificate status.
- Our certificate expires during a tender. What should we do?
- Check the buyer’s validity requirement and contact the issuing body about renewal. Share both deadlines when asking us to review the preparation work.
